INDOT to begin Ind. 22 improvements in Upland in spring 2023

As mentioned at the Downtown Development Forum on Aug. 17, 2022, the Indiana Department of Transportation plans to begin construction on Ind. 22 in spring 2023. This will affect traffic on Main Street through Upland for several months, through fall 2024.

The purpose of this project is to address deteriorated pavement and bridge conditions, improve pedestrian facilities, and provide streetscape amenities within downtown Upland.

Proposed improvements include a bridge replacement over the CERA railroad, fulldepth pavement replacement from Urban Street to the entrance of Taylor University, improved pedestrian facilities
as needed, and drainage improvements.

Additionally, within downtown Upland, streetscape, including on-street parking, sidewalk bump-outs, and upgraded lighting is proposed.

During construction, Ind. 22 will be closed to through traffic. One-lane, one-way operations will be maintained in the construction zone for local access only. INDOT states that access to residences and businesses will be provided at all times.

The planned official detour will utilize Ind. 22, Ind. 26, and I-69 (click here to see the route).
